Dr. Buket Alkan Tas holds a BSc in Chemistry and an MSc in Polymer Science and Technology. She earned her PhD in Materials Science and Engineering from Sabancı University. With over eight years of academic research experience across various universities and research centres, she has also lectured in both theoretical and applied subjects at higher education institutions. In addition to her academic background, Dr. Alkan Tas has industrial experience, having worked as an R&D specialist. 

Her core expertise lies in polymer synthesis and polymer processing, antimicrobial surface design, and nanoengineering. Her current research focuses on the development of circular polymers, with a particular interest in chemical recycling, biopolymer production and application, biodegradation, and depolymerization–repolymerization processes. She also has substantial experience in food packaging materials, photothermal materials, desalination membrane design, biobased polymers, antimicrobial coatings, nanoparticle functionalization, and controlled/living polymerization techniques.
