Dr. Maya Frost
Dr Frost is a Research Scientist for a collaborative project between Nelipak Healthcare Packaging and TUS, designing, and developing new technology for use in specialised packaging for healthcare products. This project has produced prototypes with patent applications, leading to further testing and commercialisation and further collaborative projects in a similar space.
She works in the field of polymer formulation and synthesis, pharmaceutical drug delivery, processing, stimuli-responsive polymers, physical, mechanical, and thermal properties of polymer composites. She is also a member of the Royal Society for Chemistry.
Dr Frost trained as a Critical Care Paramedic at the Oregon Health Sciences University. She has had a distinguished career in Emergency Medical Services as a Paramedic in-field, in-hospital, and critical care air ambulance services for many years. Dr Frost obtained a BSc in Analytical & Forensic Science with a BSc (Hons) degree in Bioanalytical Science from Letterkenny Institute of Technology. Dr Frost was the inaugural recipient of the “Norbrook Barnett Pharmaceutical Sciences Scholarship” and received her MSc in Pharmaceutical Sciences from the University of Ulster, Coleraine. Dr Frost completed her PhD at the Technological University of the Shannon in Polymer Engineering in the development of smart polymers for use in drug delivery applications. She was awarded “Excellence in Education” from Athlone Institute of Technology for her work with the Cell Explorers program in AIT, Westmeath, and Roscommon communities.
