Dr Romina Pezzoli

Lead Research Engineer

Dr Romina Pezzoli heads the Applied Packaging Platform (APP) at the Applied Polymer Technologies Centre, delivering high-TRL packaging innovation in collaboration with national and European partners. She leads the development of circular and sustainable packaging and plastic solutions that address current pressing industry challenges.

Her research drives the advancement of packaging materials and manufacturing technologies, supporting the transition to a circular economy through circular and sustainable, scalable solutions. Her main goal is to make sustainable packaging and plastic solutions accessible to industry.

Examples of current projects led by the APP include the sustainable packaging programme for Meat Technology Ireland Phase II and the development of reusable food packaging in the EU-funded Buddie-Pack project. The APP also contributes to the European project MagicBioMat.

Dr Pezzoli holds a Bachelor’s degree in Materials Engineering, specialising in Polymers, and a PhD in Polymer Engineering from TUS (Technological University of the Shannon).
